Weather and Emergency Closings

Emergency Closings
In the event of emergency conditions the Library may close facilities or discontinue services in order to keep staff and users safe. While not an exhaustive list, the following conditions may necessitate emergency closings: hazardous weather conditions, utility failures, building damage, official closing by local authorities, or severe outbreak of illness.

In the event of hazardous weather conditions, the Library will use the Department of Homeland Security, County Travel Status Map as a minimum guideline for weather related closings. The Library Director has final call and may choose to close the Library in excess of these guidelines if staffing concerns warrant.

• Yellow – No change in operating hours. Bookmobile may not operate.
• Orange – Libraries will open 2 hours late and/or close 2 hours early. Bookmobile will not operate.
• Red – All Library locations will close immediately.

Notification of Closing
Public media announcements will be made with WTRE (AM 1330) and Indianapolis television networks WISH Channel 8, WTHR Channel 13, and WXIN Channel 59. If possible notice will also be posted in the library facilities.
